Highland PPP2 Schools Programme

Resolis Primary School, the first of the 10 Schools which made up the Highland PPP2 Schools programme carried out by Morrison Construction (Highland) for Alpha Schools the financing consortium.
Fowler McKenzie Ltd, Cladding Specialists and Consultants were entrusted with the roofing, rainscreen and rainwater management package for this school and subsequently went on to carry out the same package on Culbokie Primary, Gaelic Primary, Inshes Primary, Millburn Academy, Dingwall Academy, Portree High School and Drummond Special Needs School. Fowler McKenzie also carried out minor works on Kinlochleven and Cawdor Primary Schools.
The work on the schools commenced in August 2006 progressed through 2007 and culminated with the completion of Drummond Special Needs School in August 2008. Initially this contract was worth £4.5 million to Fowler McKenzie but will exceed this as phase 2 of Drummond and Dingwall are now being tendered and Phase 2 of Inshes Primary is nearing completion, these being carried out following the demolition of the existing school buildings.
As part of the package Fowler McKenzie installed the Kal-Zip system for the roofs because of the versatility and strength of the material and the fact that the Kal-Zip System, supplied by Corus Building Systems and only fitted by vetted, trained and approved installers, carries exceptionally good guarantees.
The standard of the roofing materials is complimented by the use of Alucobond and PPC Aluminium Rainscreen to parts of the walls with Polyester Powder Coated aluminium rainwater pipes and the synergies of these materials has culminated in a sharp and aesthetically pleasing appearance which has earned considerable praise from staff and pupils alike.
As a cementation of our relationship with Morrison Construction (Highland) we have recently been awarded the roofing and cladding package for the Highland Archives Centre and the roofing package for the Nairn Primary Care project with a total value in excess of £1 million.
Both projects will be roofed using the Kalzip Standing Seam system but Stainless Steel Kalzip will be used on the Archives Centre as against Aluminium which is the norm for Standing Seam. “This will be the first Stainless Steel roof we have installed and we look forward to overcoming the challenges presented by the complexities and inflexibility of this material”.

This new sports facility in the grounds of The Gordon Barracks, Bridge of Don had to meld with the existing buildings around it. The Campus, Hilton Aberdeen
As the largest residential development in Aberdeen for almost 50 years and including the retention and alterations to several of the existing buildings the planning authority insisted on the use of materials which would compliment the existing traditional architecture on this former Hilton College site. Cala Homes, the developer specified Zinc to the roofs of the flats which would satisfy the planning requirement and ensure their long term integrity. Fowler McKenzie was awarded the roofing contract for the project and is installing the Kalzip Standing Seam roofing system with an Alu-Plus Zinc finish to the exterior surface. Fowler McKenzie have completed two phases to date, have secured the next two phases and are in discussions on further phases to be carried out as the development progresses over the next 5 years.
